William Shakespeare - Romeo and Juliet

Drama masterpiece on stage in Teatr ¦l±ski.

The new premiere is already the third mis-en-scene of Romeo and Juliet in Teatr ¦l±ski (the first one was directed by Mieczysław Górkiewicz in 1968, with Maria Stokowska and Zofia Bawankiewicz playing Juliet and Krzysztof Misiurkiewicz as Romeo; the second one, staged in the year 2000, was directed by Bartosz Zaczykiewicz, Juliet was played by Ewa Kutynia, Romeo – first by Artur ¦więs, then by Marcin Szaforz).

The previous productions respected the time frames of the original story, whereas Krzysztof Babicki moves the action somewhere to present times, judging from Marek Braun’s set and Marek Kuczyński’s music which clearly indicate the present day.
