Sophocles – Oedipus the King
Oedipus the King is a drama presenting evidence for the existence of transcendence, gods and doom. No matter how hard we try to change our fate, the destiny will reach us. The more we escape, the more painful the fulfillment of the Fate …
Oedipus leaves his family home in order not to kill his Father and to live away from his Mother. Years later it turns out that by fleeing, he escaped from his adoptive parents, during his journey killed his real Father and the woman he married was his Mother. He finds out the truth when he is happily in love with an older woman whose children he fathers and the memory of having once murdered an aggressive stranger is blurred.
He is the one to discover the truth as a result of an investigation he conducts and he is the one to gouge out his eyes and go into exile.
